I started drawing when I was five like all kids do and found I had little natural talent but possessed a huge desire to create. So through sheer determination I honed my craft, upped my skill and started putting brush to canvas. That was in Maryland where I grew up and went to college, but it wasn’t home. So after travelling around Canada and the US I became entranced with the city of New Orleans. I moved there 30 years ago and made it my home. In NOLA I found a love for the culture, the food, the music, the bars and its peculiar American/ Carribean flavor. I tended bar in the French Quarter and owned a sucessful gallery for several years. But Katrina changed everything. I stayed, lived through the chaos, buried neighbors and lost it all. That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger I guess. I stayed, rebuilt, and continued to paint. I travelled to Mexico many times and found an affinity with that beautiful country, its people and ancient culture. I acquired cats, had a misgendered turtle named Mickie who when he started laying eggs was determined to be a girl, and gardened. I cooked many meals, made my own hot sauce, and got a tattoo of Vincent Van Gogh's signature behind my ear. Through it all I continued to paint both on canvas panel but also on house tiles blown off the roofs during Katrina. Goya and Velasquez are two of my favorite painters but I don’t paint like either one. I’ve never lost my sense of humor and never lost my love of making art… and watching British murder mysteries.
Throughout my life I've been an oil painter, however in the early 2000s I started painting with acrylics and mixed media. This page is a selection of my works, primarily on canvas and is divided into sections reflecting my interests and obsessions:: Portraits And People, The Sacred And Profane, The World We Live In, Fantastic Beasts, Yucatan, Myths And Legends and Still Life.

The slates are all painted in acrylic on slate tiles blown off of roofs during Katrina. The imagery is light hearted and whimsical, painted as a healing antidote to the calamity of the hurricane and its aftermath. The Slates are divided into sections: Kisses From Fishes..., Nola, Real People, Maya and Los Caprichosos! Sometimes you gotta smile to keep from crying, so just take a bite of that delishus go to hell pie! or get a kiss from a fish!
